About Age Calc

Calculate your exact age from birthdate. Shows years, months, days, total weeks, hours, and minutes. Includes next birthday countdown, day of week born, zodiac sign, and fun facts.

Subtracting two dates sounds trivial until you remember that months have different lengths, leap years exist, and someone born on February 29 has an ambiguous legal age for three out of every four years. A calendar-accurate age calculation has to handle all of this, which is why 'how old am I' gets surprisingly interesting when you want the answer in years-months-days rather than just the year count.

This calculator takes a birthdate and a target date (defaulting to today) and returns age broken down across every useful granularity: years and months and days, total months, total weeks, total days, total hours, total minutes. It also surfaces secondary facts — day of the week you were born, zodiac sign, Chinese zodiac animal, and a countdown to the next birthday.

People use it for filling out forms that need an exact age in years and months (immigration, insurance, school enrollment), satisfying curiosity on milestone birthdays, calculating the age difference between two people, and finding the day of the week for historical dates. It's also common for parents tracking a young child's age in months before they switch to years.

How to use the Age Calc
  1. 1

    Enter your birthdate

Pick your date of birth from the date selector. Optionally, change the 'as of' date to calculate age on a specific future or past date instead of today.

  2. 2

    Review the breakdown

See your exact age in years, months, and days, plus totals in weeks, days, hours, and minutes. Your birth day of the week, zodiac sign, and next birthday are included.

  3. 3

    Share or save

Copy the summary for forms, paste it into a message, or screenshot the breakdown for a birthday card.

Common use cases

Form requirements

Fill out immigration, insurance, or enrollment forms that need age in years and months as of a specific date, not just today.

Infant age tracking

Parents report a newborn's age in weeks or months until around age 2. Get the exact week count without mental math.

Age-gap calculations

Compare two birthdates to find the age difference between siblings, partners, or coworkers down to the day.

Historical day-of-week lookup

Find which day of the week a historical date fell on — useful for genealogy, trivia, and checking if a birthday landed on a weekend.

Frequently asked questions
How is age calculated when the month or day hasn't passed yet?

If today's month/day is before your birth month/day, the calculator subtracts a year from the raw difference. So someone born July 15 is still 29 on July 14 of their 30th year, and turns 30 on July 15 itself.

What happens if I was born on February 29?

On non-leap years, the calculator treats March 1 as your 'functional' birthday for age-increment purposes, since February 29 doesn't exist that year. In leap years, February 29 is used as expected. Legally, rules vary by jurisdiction.

Can I calculate age on a past or future date?

Yes. Change the 'as of' date from today to any date you want. This is useful for figuring out how old someone will be on a specific future event, or how old they were at a past one.

How accurate is the hours and minutes calculation?

It's accurate to the day-level, not the second-level — the calculator assumes midnight as your birth time unless you enter one. If you know your exact birth time, you can add it to get a true minute-accurate result.

Why does the zodiac sign show two options?

Cusp dates (where one sign transitions to the next) shift by a day or two depending on the year due to the tropical zodiac's relationship with Earth's orbit. The calculator uses the most commonly cited date boundaries; if you were born on the edge, check against your year of birth specifically.
