Background Remover
Remove image backgrounds locally in your browser with an AI model. Private, free, no uploads.
Erase the background from any photo without uploading it anywhere. A neural network runs entirely in your browser after a one-time model download, outputting a transparent PNG. Works on portraits, product photos, and most subject-on-background images.
Removing an image background used to mean paying for remove.bg, uploading to TinyWow, or spending time masking in Photoshop. This tool runs a neural network (U2-Net / IS-Net family) directly in your browser via WebAssembly. On the first run it downloads the model weights, after which every subsequent removal is instant and offline. Nothing ever leaves your device.
Results are best on images with a clear subject against a contrasting background (portraits, products, logos). The model struggles with hair flyaways, transparent or glass subjects, and cluttered backgrounds. When that happens, try the 'Best' model quality setting or touch up the result in another tool. The output is a PNG with genuine alpha transparency, ready to drop onto any background.

Pick a quality preset
Fast is smaller and quicker but less accurate. Balanced is the usual right answer. Best uses the largest model — slower but cleanest edges.
- 2
Upload your image
Drag or select a JPG / PNG / WebP. Everything stays on your device — the model weights are cached in your browser for next time.
- 3
Download the transparent PNG
Click Remove background. First run waits for the model to download; subsequent runs on the same device are near-instant. Save the cut-out PNG.
Product photos for stores
Strip backgrounds from product shots for clean e-commerce listings without paying per image.
Profile pictures
Extract yourself from a busy photo and drop onto any color or scene for avatars, LinkedIn, or memes.
Design assets
Free up logos, icons, or illustrations locked inside screenshots without Photoshop.
Privacy-sensitive images
Process personal photos, medical images, or confidential documents without uploading them anywhere.
Is my image sent to any server?
No. The AI model runs 100% in your browser via WebAssembly. Your image never leaves your device.
Why does the first run take so long?
The first run downloads the AI model (around 25 MB). The browser caches it, so every removal after that is near-instant and works offline.
Does it work for hair, fur, or transparent objects?
Simple cases work well. Fine hair strands, glass, water, and heavily cluttered backgrounds are the model's weak spots. Try the Best quality preset for difficult images.
What formats are supported?
Input: JPG, PNG, WebP. Output: PNG with alpha transparency. If you need another format, run the PNG through our Image Converter.
Is there a size or file limit?
Only what your device can handle. Very large images (>20 megapixels) will be slow; downscale first with Image Resizer for faster results.
