About Salary to Hourly

Enter an annual salary or an hourly rate, adjust hours per week and weeks per year, and see every equivalent pay rate side by side: hourly, daily (8 hour), weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, and annual. Supports USD, EUR, GBP, and JPY. Useful for comparing job offers, negotiating contracts, or planning a freelance hourly rate.

Comparing a salaried job offer to a contract position, or figuring out whether a raise keeps pace with more work, is mostly arithmetic that people get wrong in their heads. This converter handles both directions: go from an annual salary to an hourly rate, or from an hourly rate to an implied annual salary, using the same inputs for hours per week and weeks per year.

The default of 40 hours a week and 52 weeks a year assumes a standard full-time schedule with paid time off. Change weeks per year to 50 to model two weeks of unpaid PTO, or to 48 for a month of unpaid leave. For part-time work, drop hours per week to 20 or 30. The math flows from a single annual figure: hourly is annual divided by (hours per week times weeks per year), weekly is hourly times hours per week, bi-weekly is annual divided by 26, monthly is annual divided by 12, and daily assumes an 8 hour workday.

Currency selection covers the four most common currencies (USD, EUR, GBP, JPY) and applies to every output row. All computation is deterministic and runs entirely in your browser, so you can explore offers and scenarios without leaving a trail.

Frequently asked questions
Why does the calculator default to 52 weeks?

52 weeks assumes a standard full-time schedule with paid time off, which is how most salaried jobs are structured. Change it to 50 for two weeks of unpaid PTO or 48 if you plan to take a month off.

Does this account for taxes or deductions?

No. Results are gross (pre-tax) rates. Actual take-home pay depends on your jurisdiction, filing status, retirement contributions, and benefits. Use a dedicated tax calculator for net income.

What formula is used for the hourly rate?

Hourly rate equals annual salary divided by hours per week times weeks per year. For the default 40 hours and 52 weeks, that's 2,080 hours per year.

Why is bi-weekly annual divided by 26 and not 24?

A bi-weekly pay schedule pays every two weeks, which works out to 26 pay periods per year (52 weeks divided by 2). Semi-monthly schedules pay 24 times, but bi-weekly and semi-monthly are different.

Is my salary information sent anywhere?

No. Every calculation runs in your browser. Nothing is transmitted, logged, or stored.
